The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched an investigation into the death of a detainee at the Darling Street Police Station in Kingston.
The dead man, identified by INDECOM as 20-year-old higgler, Oshane Dothlyn of a Kingston address, was arrested by the police and placed in custody on February 1.
According to the Jamaica Constabulary Force's Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), the deceased was found hanging in his cell while awaiting processing in police custody.

However, the exact circumstances leading to the death of the man are unclear as residents have a different side of the story.
The STAR has learnt that a number of persons gathered on Monday at the Darling Street Police Station expressing discontent over the claims given by the police.
"The police said that he hang himself, but people heard him screaming from the police station. A vendor nearby was saying that is beat them beat him. The whole thing doesn't add up. Is a 'spliff' them hold him with. The story that they giving don't add up," the male resident said.
Investigations by INDECOM continue into the incident.
