A man accused of making a false report to the police informing them of an alleged plot to assassinate Opposition Leader, Andrew Holness, pleaded guilty when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
Charged with creating public mischief is 48-year-old Maxi Robinson of Gibraltar, St Ann.
Allegations are that on January 25, about 12:15 p.m., the accused went to the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Headquarters on Belmont Road in St Andrew, and reported that he had information that three members of the JLP had contracted three men to assassinate the Opposition Leader of the JLP, Andrew Holness, and the General Secretary of the JLP, Dr Horace Chang.
It is believed that in a detailed report given by the accused to the police on January 29, the names and aliases of the alleged would-be assassins were revealed.
Following further investigation, detectives reportedly noted several inconsistencies in the report made by Robinson. On February 10, Robinson was further questioned by the police, during which it is believed that he gave a written confession to lawmen in the presence of his then attorney, Roy Stewart, admitting to the fabrication of the previous account.
Robinson was ordered by Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey to reappear in court on March 31, when he is to be sentenced.
