WESTERN BUREAU:

A St James man who reportedly stabbed his common-law wife to death last October will undergo preliminary examination in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on April 30.

David McPherson, from Montego Bay, is charged in connection with the murder of Natoya Slowly. His bail was extended after he was given the date for preliminary examination when he appeared in court on Friday.

It is alleged that on October 14, 2014, McPherson and Slowly were in the vicinity of the People's Arcade in Montego Bay when an argument ensued. It is alleged that McPherson used a knife to stab Slowly several times all over her body.

Slowly was subsequently pronounced dead at hospital.

When the case was mentioned on Friday, the court was told that the prosecution's file was ready and a date could be set for preliminary inquiry.

As a result, presiding magistrate Carolyn Tie extended McPherson's bail to April 30.
