A selector who has been accused of assaulting a woman and threatening to kill her in front of the police because she allegedly told persons that a child she gave birth to belongs to him, was remanded until today.
Friday when the matter was called up in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court, the accused Orville Bailey pleaded not guilty to the charges of assault and issuing threats.
He instead offered the court an explanation.
Bailey said, "Your honour she gave me a child that is not mine so mi tell her to stop call up mi name with the baby."
The court was told that during an argument Bailey allegedly held on to the complainant's neck and pulled a knife threatening to kill her.
Further allegations are that threats were again made in font of the police when they went to investigate the matter.
Bailey refuted those allegations saying, "Your Honour she dash weh mi twin dem and want to give mi jacket after a mi cousin breed her. I didn't have a knife, I was at a kid's party when the police dem come lock mi up Saturday."
The court also heard that the police are recommending that if the court was willing to grant him bail, it should be with conditions.
The police also said based on their observation of Bailey, a mental evaluation is needed.
Resident Magistrate Lorna Shelly-Williams told the accused that he would have to relocate and find somewhere else to live.
Bailey told the court that he thinks he can go and live with his mother.
He was remanded and a fingerprint order made.
Bailey is to return to court today when it is expected he will reveal ifhe can live with his mother.
