A man who told the court the reason he had ganja in his possession was solely for medicinal use, was fined a total of $5100 when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Pleading guilty to possession of ganja and not guilty to dealing in ganja is Omar McGibbon of a Kingston address.
McGibbon admitted to the court that he has been using the herb since 2010 since he met in a motorbike accident and uses it to ease his belly pains.
According to the accused, "me did a listen a programme and dem seh it good fi belly pain, so me use it cause me belly hurt me."
Resident Magistrate Georgianna Frazer told the accused, "ganja is not legal, so you should not have it in your possession."
RM Frazer fined the accused $100 or 10 days for the possession of ganja and $5000 for dealing in ganja.
