Liqour bill lands patron before judge

A man who pleaded guilty to running from a club without paying his liquor bill was fined $10,000 when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court last Thursday.

Coy Morgan, who has been charged with obtaining money by fraud, was told to pay the fine or serve six months in prison.

Allegations are that on the day of the incident, the accused went to a club in the Corporate Area where he racked up a liquor bill amounting to $13,100.

taken seriously

It is alleged that after drinking the alcohol, Morgan was approached by the bartender of the club who he told he had given the money to friends to pay the bill.

The court heard that when the accused realised that he was not taken seriously he ran from the club, however, he was later arrested,

"Your Honour, I was there with some friends and I gave them the money to pay for me," Morgan told the court before he begged to pay the bill and leniency.

However, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey said that she didn't believe Morgan's story and fined him after he pleaded guilty.
