Despite a challenging financial environment, JPS, last Friday, held an orientation session at its head office in Kingston for a batch of 80 summer employees.
These include students from tertiary and secondary institutions who will be employed over a seven-week period between June 30, 2014 and August 15, 2014, a release from the light and power company said.
JPS' summer employment programme is consistent with the Company's strong commitment to the development of the island's youth and the creation of youth leaders.
"JPS has, over the years, recognised the need for students to gain work experience and have earning opportunities that help them meet their financial obligations. As a result its Summer Employment Programme has been ongoing since 1992," the release said.
This year, some of the students will be placed at various JPS locations islandwide, while others will be placed at partner agencies such as the Bustamante Children's Hospital, the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH), FISH Clinic, National Youth Service (NYS), Rural Electrification Programme (REP) and the Georgia Foundation.
