The Jamaica Public Service last night confirmed that it has received reports that an unidentified man was allegedly electrocuted by an illegal connection along the Orange Bay main road in Hanover on Wednesday night, as he caught crabs.
The company, in a release, said from preliminary investigations, there was an illegal connection which had been attached to JPS' overhead wires, running along the ground, then through a culvert leading to the other side of the road.
"JPS has been, and continues to appeal to members of the public to desist from the practice of illegally abstracting electricity, as it is dangerous to life and property, negatively impacts the quality of electricity received by paying customers, and is unfair to all," the release said.
Persons wishing to report cases of electricity theft may send a text message to 292-7483 (CYA RITE), or send an email to: stoptheft@jpsco.com.
Residents who are seeking to become regularised may call the Customer Care Centre, or visit the nearest Customer Service Office in their parish.
