Two men were detained and two firearms and a quantity of ammunition seized in separate incidents on Sunday. In the first incident, the St Catherine South police seized a firearm and several rounds of ammunition on Skeleton Drive, Old Harbour in the parish and charged one man.
Charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition is 21-year-old Anthony Jackson, a labourer of Pamela Drive in Old Harbour. Jackson is booked to appear before the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday, May 16.
The Old Harbour police say about 1:20 a.m., a team was conducting an operation when a man was observed acting suspiciously. He was accosted and searched and a Ruger 9mm pistol with a magazine containing ten 9mm cartridges was taken from him.
In the other incident, the Olympic Gardens police took one man into custody in connection with the seizure of a 9mm Point pistol and a magazine containing six 9mm cartridges on Olympic Way, Kingston 11
Reports say about 9:30 p.m., police were conducting an operation near a playing field when a man was searched and found to be carrying the firearm. He was taken into custody, however, his identity is being withheld pending further investigations.
