Labourer on rape charge to be sentenced

A rape accused who escaped from the Spanish Town lock-up last year is to be sentenced in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on July 15.

He is Rohan Pryce, 32-year-old labourer of Spanish Town, St Catherine.

When the matter came up for mention before Resident Magistrate Natalee Brooks, the accused man pleaded guilty to escaping custody.

His attorney, Patrick Peterkin, told the court that he was at the mercy of the court, and asked that the accused be sentenced in July when he appeared in court on the rape charge.

Clerk of Court, Nicole Kellier, outlined that on April 12 last year, about 3:45 a.m., Pryce along with other prisoners cut a section of a metal grille at the lock-up and escaped.

He remained at large until May 15 of this year when he was taken back to the Kingston Central police by a lawyer. He was subsequently charged.
