The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has upgraded charges laid against two police officers, who were allegedly involved in the October 20, 2013 assault on Kamoza Clarke at the Falmouth Police Lock-up.
Clarke, who was said to be mentally ill, later died.
At a press conference held at their New Kingston headquarters yesterday, INDECOM revealed that district constables Alwayne Eccleston and Onecko Brown, who were originally charged with wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm and misconduct in a public office, have now been charged with murder.
They have been offered bail in the sum of $700,000.
neglect of duty
The two other district constables implicated in the incident, Desmond Lawrence and Triston Turner, are still facing the charge of neglect of duty and have been offered bail in the sum of $500,000.
A fifth policeman in the incident, Sergeant Derick Henry, was charged with murder yesterday morning and hauled before the Clarks Town Resident Magistrate's Court in Trelawny. He was offered bail in the sum of $600,000.
All five men are scheduled to return to court on May 28. They are also to surrender their travel documents.
