Tax Administration Jamaica's (TAJ) annual Special Taxpayer Assistance Programme, which provides free preparation of Income Tax returns and guidance to business operators earning under $3,000,000, is now underway and will run until the end of March.
Business persons and individuals are invited to visit any of the over 100 scheduled sessions being held over the next few weeks at various locations across the island. At these sessions, business persons will be guided by TAJ representatives on how to prepare the new Self- Employed Annual Return (S04) and revised Income Tax forms due March 15, as well as to get assistance with registering to electronically file their Employer's Annual Return (S02) due March 31, in keeping with the mandatory e-filing requirement.
Self-employed individuals, in particular, are urged to take advantage of the sessions to learn more about the new S04 Form, which replaces the IT01, ET01, NHT and NIS annual declarations which previously had to be completed and submitted at three separate agencies, with separate payments. This allows self-employed individuals to now use one form, make one payment, at one place to meet their obligations, as payments can now be made at any tax office using the S04.
Individuals will also be guided to use the consolidated estimated return Form S04a, which has also been introduced to report their projected income, taxes and statutory contributions, replacing the form IT07 and other estimated returns.
It should be noted that the new S04, S04a and revised income tax forms are to be filed and paid at any tax office, as TAJ makes the necessary preparations to provide taxpayers with the online filing option. The forms are available for download from the TAJ website http://ift.tt/1xp9PJ4.
Details of all venues, dates and times for the sessions are also available online, or by contacting the TAJ Customer Care Centre at 1-888-TAX-HELP (1-888-829-4357) or any tax office.
